David Dein inspires Year 12 students
On Monday 19th September, Enfield Grammar School welcomed Mr David Dein, the former Vice-Chairman of Arsenal Football Club, to give a motivational talk to Year 12.
Mr Dein was on the board at Arsenal FC when the club enjoyed incredible success, winning a total of 18 trophies, including five league titles.
Using anecdotes and props, Mr Dein took students on a journey throughout his career, focusing on the creation of the Premier League in which he played a major part.
Leaving students in no doubt, Mr Dein extolled the virtues of hard work, behaviour, attitude and pride in what it takes to make a person successful. Indeed, Mr Dein ensured students didn’t forget a saying he says he lives by as the Year 12s repeated the motto of the turtle: “…you don’t get anywhere unless you stick your neck out.”
Students were invited to ask questions and were treated to the bonus of also having the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon John Bercow MP, and the renowned songwriter Geoff Morrow in attendance too.
Questions ranged from the panel’s views on Brexit, modern music and video technology in football.
A thoroughly inspiring morning was brought to a close as Mr Dein and his fellow guests were given a rousing round of applause.
