  • DAY TWO

DATE POSTED: WEDNESDAY 15 JUL 2015

Day two brought a surprisingly bright and bushy tailed bunch at breakfast. A continental breakfast was the first reward of the day, fruit, cold meats, cereals and breads.

We traveled by coach to Barcelona with our tour guide, Sue, telling us about the history and relevance of certain monuments along the way. We stopped at the 1992 olympic venue and had a look at the vast stadium where the track and field events took place all those years ago… the boys were asking who the athletes of the day were. I guessed at Llinford Christie(?). A guessing game about the teacher’s ages followed with some very inaccurate guesses!

After the pain of the students guesses faded from our short term memories we travel by coach to the top of Montjuic Park to take in the beautiful panoramic views of Barcelona city and port before heading into the city centre for the students to spend some free time (and euros) on Las Ramblas – a pedestrianised shopping street. What to eat for lunch? The students decided to try that famous traditional Spanish restaurant with the golden arches serving Mcmeals while the teachers eat tapas.

As the weather was so hot, the prices on Las Ramblas so expensive and the students feeling tired, we headed back to Calella after two hours to enjoy some more beach time.

We returned to the hotel for our evening meal before lugging the equipment to the local town square and playing our first concert of the tour. It went quite well and the audience enjoyed our range of line-ups and where suitably impressed. As I write the students are in their rooms ‘settling down for sleep’ before we head to the theme park and play a concert in Figueres tomorrow evening.

    Bring it on!

  • DAY ONE

DATE POSTED: WEDNESDAY 15 JUL 2015

‘What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours’ or so someone once said… well, after nearly 24hrs on a coach complete with Back To The Future Trilogy, Godzilla and Men In Black DVDs there was little change in the enthusiasm of our group. While traveling overnight had mixed rewards in terms of sleep and sleeping arrangements, the boys were very excited to know that we had finally entered Spain and were nearly at our host town, Calella.

We arrived at our hotel and the boys were very patient while we allocated room numbers and told them their rooming buddies. A quick turn around later and the group were swimming in the warm blue Mediterranean sea and/or lounging on the yellow sands of the blue flag beaches of Calella. Some of the boys were amazed that there were fish inhabiting the same waters as them…and that they were too fast to catch! The comments quickly turned to ‘what would we be doing now if we were in England?’ with various answers serving to illustrate that the long journey was well and truly worth it.

After swimming we returned to the Hotel to eat supper and hear the itinerary for the following day before heading out into the town to see where we will be playing tomorrow and to sample the shopping delights of this amazingly vibrant town. Some boys are currently playing football while others have decided to retire to their rooms for the night.

Tomorrow we head to Barcelona to ride the cable car and experience Las Ramblas before our first show of the tour. We are all really excited (and really ready for a sleep in a bed!).

We will update you as soon as we get a chance on this action-packed music tour.
